I don't have a good answer, but it seems to me that the dinner context is significant and Jesus' candor in that context is significant, as is the response by the Pharisees, which is not always reported and so open to some guessing. Perhaps some Pharisees sometimes invited Jesus to dinner because they were interested in what he had to say. <br /><br />Maybe you've got better formed thoughts. Thanks for the prodding.
